Prizefighter Heavyweights III moves to ExCel - 02/09/2009
THE venue for October’s Prizefighter Heavyweights III has been changed due to a huge demand for tickets.
Prizefighter Heavyweights III had been scheduled for the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, but sold out its 1,100 capacity within 48 hours of going on sale.
The event, which still takes place on Friday, October 2 as planned, features the cream of British heavyweights, including current British Champion Danny Williams, three former British title holders and Olympic Games gold medalist Audley Harrison.
Up to 5,000 boxing fans will now have the chance to watch the eight-man, one-night thrilling tournament at London’s ExCel, which is expected to be sold out. From left to right – Danny Williams, Michael Sprott, Michael Holden, Audley Harrison, Scott Belshaw, Danny Hughes, Scott Gammer and Coleman Barrett with the Prizefighter trophy.
“We felt that a sold out York Hall would create a superb atmosphere for what is the most high profile Prizefighter yet, but with the unprecedented demand it was only fair to give everyone a chance to be at what will be boxing’s night of the year,” said promoter Barry Hearn.
“We’re looking to go up to 5,000 seats at the ExCel and with the way tickets have been flying out the door, I am anticipating a sell-out.”
With four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final, each lasting a maximum of three rounds, Prizefighter’s explosive all-in-one-night concept goes from strength to strength.
There is £32,000 out of a total purse of £80,000 going to the winner as well as a glorious opportunity to use Prizefighter as a launch pad for a world title shot.
This will be the third Prizefighter Heavyweights event and the winners of the first two – Martin Rogan and Sam Sexton – both went on to claim the Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship.
All original Tickets for York Hall, Bethnal Green will be exchanged on the night.
The full line-up is Coleman Barrett (Galway, Ireland), Scott Belshaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), Scott Gammer (Pembroke Dock, Wales), Audley Harrison (London / California), Michael Holden (Manchester), Danny Hughes (Sunderland), Michael Sprott (Reading) and Danny Williams (Brixton).
