EIGHT contenders stake their claim for glory on Saturday night
Fight fans will get exclusive insight into the eight contenders in Saturday's Prizefighter Light Heavyweights II event from London's Olympia on tonight's Sky Sports preview show 'Prizefighter: Last Man Standing', on Sky Sports 1 and HD1 at 6.30pm.
The Matchroom Sport produced show features interviews with the eight fighters as the build up to the night where they battle for the trophy and £32,000 winner's cheque. There are extended interviews with Jack Morris, Billy Slate and Joe Smyth as they talk about the pressures of preparing for the 16th edition of Matchroom Sport's eight-man, one night event; the first to be shown in 3D on Sky Sports.
"It's great to see these guys in the limelight and they have all revelled in the attention they've received from Sky Sports and Matchroom," said Matchroom Sport managing director Eddie Hearn. "Anyone who has seen them prepare know how much it means to them and they all know that success on this one massive night could put them three years ahead of schedule in their careers."
Prizefighter Light Heavyweights II kicks-off at 8pm with the opening quarter-final between Romford man Billy Slate and Margate fighter Jack Morris. They are fighting to face either Coventry's Llewellyn Davies or Durham's Travis Dickinson – the former a Welsh amateur skipper, the latter the younger brother of Prizefighter Cruiserweights II champ Jon-Lewis, who put unbeaten records on the line in London.
The third quarter-final pits the two most experienced fighters together as former British super middleweight champion Tony Dodson takes on Surrey-based Polish fighter Michael Banbula – with 40-fight veteran Banbula currently on the best run of his career, unbeaten in his last five fights. The winner of that bout will face the victor of the final fight of the night as hungry unbeaten Kent fighter Menay Edwards faces St Albans 7-1 hitter Joe Smyth.
Prizefighter Light Heavyweights II draw:
Billy Slate v Jack Morris
Llewellyn Davies v Travis Dickinson
Tony Dodson v Michael Banbula
Joe Smyth v Menay Edwards
Tickets for Prizefighter Light Heavyweights II are available at £30 unreserved and £50 ringside at SeeTickets.com or through Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900. The £20 unreserved, £40 ringside and £120 VIP are now all SOLD OUT.
