Rocky Fielding gets golden hometown shot in Prizefighter - 18/03/2011
LIVERPOOL boxer completes the Super-Middleweights II line-up for March 23
Rocky Fielding has been handed the biggest night of his boxing career in Prizefighter Super-Middleweights II in his hometown of Liverpool live on Sky Sports on March 23.
The 23 year-old light-heavyweight prospect is dropping down to fight at Liverpool Olympia with three wins from his first three professional bouts. Fielding will face Yorkshireman Patrick J Maxwell in the opening quarter-final of the night and replaces Scotsman Kenny Anderson who withdrew after struggling with weight and fitness.
Fielding may be a late entry into the event, but as one of four Liverpudlians in the event, he will have plenty of support on the night and the Oliver Harrison trained fighter believes that he can cause an upset in the 17th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one-night tournaments with £32,000 to the winner.
“I’m confident I can beat the lads who are in Prizefighter,” Fielding told the Liverpool Echo. “Doing well in this competition can open doors for me.
“We haven’t been doing any specific training for it but I’ve been doing eight and six round spars with Martin Murray over the last two weeks and so we have just decided to go for it.”
The winner of the Fielding versus Maxwell bout will face either Liverpool’s Joe Ainscough or tough Sheffield fighter Wayne Reed in the first semi-final. The bottom half of the draw sees former World Champion Robin Reid fight unbeaten Welsh prospect Tobias Webb – Reid could potentially face fellow Liverpudlian Carl Dilks who faces Leicester boxer Jahmaine Smyle in the fourth quarter-final.
Tickets for Prizefighter Super Middleweights II at Liverpool Olympia on Wednesday 23 March are available from Matchroom Sport priced £30 unreserved – to buy call Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900.
