Spectacular Prizefighter trophy entrance / weigh-in news - 12/09/2008

WITH the help of the Royal Marines, the Prizefighter trophy made its way into Newcastle in spectacular style as it was transported down the River Tyne for a Sky Sports publicity shoot.

Prizefighter, which features eight British heavyweights competing in a knockout tournament where each contest lasts a maximum of three rounds, starts at 8pm.

Tickets will be available on the night and cost from £25. Alternatively, all the action will also be screened live on Sky Sports 1.

DARREN Morgan is the heaviest competitor in the Prizefighter Series Heavyweights 2 tournament.

Morgan, who was also heaviest in the first event in April, tipped the scales at 19st 1lb 7oz at the weigh-in, held at the Jury’s Inn hotel in Newcastle.

The Welsh fighter weighs more than three stone more than the lightest competitor – Derbyshire’s Luke Simpkin at 15st 13 1/2lb.

Tickets are available from £25 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on the night with the first of seven quick-fire contests starting just after 8pm.

Sam Sexton meets Pele Reid before Simpkin meets home hope David Ferguson, favourite Chris Burton takes on David Ingleby before the last first round fight sees Lee Swaby v Darren Morgan.

Anyone who cannot make it to the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle can watch all the action live on Sky Sports 1 from 8pm.
